Busting limiting beliefs (Part 1)

Beliefs have a powerful self-fulfilling effect. Whether you believe you can or can’t do something, you are right!

This is a double-edged sword. Empowering beliefs are a pathway to our success. Think about how you feel when you genuinely believe you can do something wonderful, something amazing. It's an incredible feeling.

Disempowering (or limiting) beliefs on the other hand have the opposite effect, keeping us small, stuck in our comfort zone and unwilling to stretch ourselves.

What To Do When Unhelpful Thoughts Get In The Way

Did you know that we each have about 65,000 thoughts a day? And that 90% of these are thoughts we had yesterday, the day before and the day before that?

Because the thoughts that run through our mind affect our decisions, behaviours and actions, it's imperative to be as mindful and aware of those thoughts as we can be.

One of the quickest ways to break negative or unhelpful thought patterns is to reframe the thoughts. In other words, to offer ourselves an alternative perspective.

The Real Reason Coaching Makes You Uncomfortable

I've met many people who simply have a blank stare when I say that I coach executives for a living. Questions arise such as: “What’s that then?”, “What, like a sports coach?”, “So, you tell people how to do stuff?”, “Hmmm … coaching…”. Some of these reactions come from a place of genuine curiosity and some from a more sceptical position.

Now, I know coaching is not for everyone, and I'm certainly not on a mission to 'turn' the sceptics - we've spoken before about how coaching has a bit of a Marmite reputation - I sometimes wonder, though, whether there is something deeper going on behind the sceptics's view.
